My Mother bred Toy Poodles and had her affix ‘Gaieval’ before I was born and since then there has never been a day without a Poodle in my life. I showed my first Toy Poodle in the early 1970’s,
competing in breed and junior handling classes. My first Standard Poodle arrived in 1975 and eventually I took over the ‘Vicmar’ affix from my mentor Vicky Marshall when she emigrated to Australia. Our family moved from the North East to Middlesex when my parents bought Bigley Kennels at West Drayton where we built a boarding kennels and continued the established grooming business until my parents retired in 1998 . To date I have owned, bred or shown 31 UK Champions (28 Std’s ,3 Toy’s). There have also been many overseas Champions. My biggest winning dog is the Standard Poodle Ch Vicmars Rave On JW, he was the UK’s Top Poodle and 3rd Top Utility for 2010. He won the CC/BOB and The Utility Group at Crufts 2011 and was again the UK’s Top Standard Poodle 2012,he was also BIS at The Standard Poodle Club Ch Show 2010/ 2011/2012 a record for the SPC.He won 26 Challenge Certificates and was a multiple Group and Speciality BIS winner. At home I have three of his Champion daughters ,Ch Ring My Bell , Ch Shall We Dance and Ch Huffish That Woman At Vicmar. In 2023 Ch Vicmar Rewrite The Rules was Top Standard Puppy and won 5CC’S before 18 months of age. I was passed by the Kennel Club to award Challenge Certificates in 1987 and have regularly awarded CC’s in all three sizes. I have had the great honour to award CC’s at Crufts in all three sizes of Poodles , judging Toys in 2024, Miniatures in 2014 and Standards in 2012. I have been fortunate to have some memorable judging appointments around the World, I have twice been invited to judge in Australia, including the Poodle National in 2017 and also judged Poodles in Japan, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Ireland all at Championship level. I have a passion for my breed and holidays are more often to be visiting dog shows than sitting on a beach. I’m also proud to be the Secretary of The Poodle Club, which is believed to be the oldest Poodle Breed Club in the World, it was founded in 1876. I am honoured to be invited to judge in Helsinki 2025 and look forward to my visit.
